Today is my birthday, which seems an appropriately lovely day on which to inaugurate this newsfeed.
My obective is to keep this news setion of my webpage up to date with the things I’m doing: concerts, recordings, as well as research and any thoughts I have as I go along. My hope is that people who visit my page will leave a comment! Please bear with me while I learn the ropes.
This afternoon I will be performing Mozart’s Symphony n. 17 in g major K 129, Haydn’s Symphony n. 96 in d maor (The Miracle), and Beethoven’s Symphony n. 1 with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, under the direction of Federico Maria Sardelli.
All wonderful music for a birthday concert! But should there be a harpsichord in these pieces, or was the keyboard no longer considered an orchestral instrument by this time (1770s onwards)?
